Early in the morning Sol drops me off ocean side and I affix myself to the corner of ‘my’ bench again. It is considerably colder today.
Me and my computer’s battery last about 3 hours as it is hard to type with fingers that don’t bend.
I am very alert and productive though. I walk back to town to a different cafe where I have to stand in line to get my coffee and occupy a bench in their garden.I work there some more before throwing up white flag and asking Sol to pick me up so I could work from a warm car.
While I am plugging away at the keyboard with heat running in the car kids and a dog take a dip in the ‘big river’ outlet from the ocean. They take a dip fully clothed though and are practically frozen solid an hour later.
We change and drive over to Fort Brag to visit an awesome spot me and Sol remember from 2011.
Glass beach in Fort Brag is unique. What used to be a town dump site in 1920’s became and attraction in 1980’s. All the trash
an glass bottles were washed and tumbled by the ocean for many years to become whimsical sea glass at the local secluded beach.
Passing through there 15 years ago we remember a beach full of sea glass and are eager to share it with girls.
As we approach it I get am icky feeling. The place is now a tourist spot with a large parking lot and signage and a ton of people.
We walk out to see a pebbly beach with people picking up the last pieces of sea glass here and there.
We look out at the ocean. Everything looks so different. We have to dig out the pictures from 9 years ago to make sure we are in correct spot. We are not. The beach we were on is a little to the side and is closed off entirely.
On the top of it there seems to be a sewer processing plant near by and we can smell it even though the masks.
We are a tad disappointed but kids have fun nonetheless.
Back at a camp site we make dinner and girls take shower outdoors (shower head is on the side of a rig) as they desperately need one but also we have no utilities at the site. We have to wait till it is dark because they don’t want to be seen but they welcome a hot shower on a cool cool day and we are happy to have clean kids.
