On the 30th day of our travels Sol is up early. While we fight to sleep some more he has done the dishes, organized the car and is ready to go. We are determined to arrive in West Yellow Stone tonight. So, away we drive into the plains of Idaho with coffee cups at the heap.

We drive a big chunk of the state before we stop. The stop we have chosen is at Craters of the Moon Park. Another rough terrain formed by a volcanic activity (we are really pushing it with seismically active spots in 2020). We pull into the park through the fields of petrified basaltic rock that once flowed here as lava.

The terrain is un-earth like. The rocks around are dark brown and black and are glistening in the sun. It is so rough that one can not walk through it. We take a short hike hike through Devil’s woods to see some rock up close as well a few plants that are able to survive.

Next, we drive by the large hill of almost black cinder. We see some people climbing up all the way to the top and imagine the view from up there.
Even though we are a little pressed for time (must be in Yellow Stone by 10 pm to make it into the camp ground) we charge ahead to the top of the hill.

It is so insanely windy at the top that Sasha is almost blown off.

The views are terrific though and looking under my feet I imagine I am standing on the Moon.

Before too long we must charge on. We descend from the hill carrying multiple cinder souvenirs in our shoes.

Another three hours of driving and we pull into Grizzly Bear camp site in the Village of West Yellow Stone, Montana around 9 pm. After our longest drive yet everyone is tired, Especially the pup who just could not wait to get out of the car. He is not feeling well and is moping around the trailer while we are unpacking. The night is dark and starry and we are so tired that we just go to bed after minimal set up. We will be spending 4.5 glorious days here.
