Yesterday was a day filled with awe-inspiring natural beauty, educational exploration, and culinary delights as we ventured through Taughannock Falls State Park, Cornell University, and Ithaca Commons in Ithaca, New York.
Morning Adventure at Taughannock Falls State Park
Our day began with a refreshing hike at Taughannock Falls State Park, renowned for its central waterfall that is one of the tallest east of the Rocky Mountains. The falls cascade from a height of 215 feet, surpassing even Niagara Falls in sheer drop, and blasting a fine mist over all visitors. The trail to the waterfall was about a mile each way, with an accessible and dog-friendly path. Our dogs reveled in the journey and it left them happily covered in the day’s adventures. To cap off our visit and clean off their underbellies, we played fetch by the lake, where Waffles took her inaugural swim and Darwin played endless fetch and jumped off his first dock.
Exploring Cornell University
The afternoon took us to the historic and picturesque Cornell University where we took an unguided meandering tour. The university, perched atop a hill, is adorned with its own waterfalls, gorges, and lakes, complemented by sprawling botanical gardens. The sight of an ice skating rink among such academic and natural splendor highlighted the diverse experiences Cornell offers its community. For Alex, 10, the university sparked dreams of future endeavors. Tamara was unmoved.
Evening Delights at Ithaca Commons
Our explorations concluded at Ithaca Commons, a bustling pedestrian mall brimming with dining options, quaint shops, and vibrant street life. The culinary scene was a highlight—sushi for Alex, ramen for Tamara, and a Marrakesh gyro for Sol and Galina. We finished with treats and coffee from Ithaca Bakery. Magnificent!
